Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA), a government-owned and controlled corporation, was created by virtue of Republic Act No. 9593 (RA 9593) or the Tourism Act of 2009 on 12 May 2009, replacing Philippine Tourism Authority (PTA). TIEZA in addition to designating, regulating and supervising tourism enterprise zones(TEZs), is mandated to continue the functions previously exercised by PTA under Presidential Declaration 564 as long as consistent with the provisions of RA 9593.
TIEZA acts as the Philippine’s Department of Tourism’s infrastructure development and investment arm in providing support infrastructures and facilitating investments for tourism. TIEZA, in realizing its purposes, performs its main functions: infrastructure development; designation, regulation and supervision of TEZs; management of assets; and, administration of Philippine Travel Tax collection.
As the country’s builder of tourism infrastructures, TIEZA brings development to areas with high cultural, historical, religious, heritage and/or eco-tourism values, helping shape a deep sense of awareness and pride for the Filipino’s traditions, natural bounties, and uniqueness as a race.
Through the designation, regulation, and supervision of TEZs, private stakeholders become shared-partners in tourism development, creating jobs and economic activities for the local communities.
TIEZA operating assets provide tourism infrastructure and services such as hotels, golf courses, convention centers and resorts, and supports the need for tourism facilities in emerging destinations and in areas in need of more tourist activities and investments.
TIEZA continuously develops partnerships with both private sector and local governments as a strategy in managing its projects, increasing the beneficiaries of tourism development.
Travel tax collection funds priority tourism programs aligned with the Philippine Development Plan and the National Tourism Development Plan.
TIEZA strives to provide excellence in public service by continually improving its systems, products and services with innovation and creative business undertakings.
