Dauda Lawal

Governor

Zamfara State Government

Dauda Lawal, born in 1965 in Zamfara State, Nigeria, is the current governor of Zamfara, sworn in on May 29, 2023. A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) with degrees in Political Science, he transitioned from a distinguished banking career to politics. As an Executive Director at First Bank of Nigeria, he earned acclaim for leadership in Nigeria’s financial sector before entering public service. Lawal’s 2023 gubernatorial victory under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ended the All Progressives Congress (APC)’s hold on Zamfara, reflecting public demand for change amid security and economic crises. His administration prioritizes security (combating banditry/kidnapping), education/healthcare revitalization, and economic growth via agriculture, infrastructure, and youth empowerment. A philanthropist, he founded the Dauda Lawal Foundation, supporting education, healthcare, and community projects. Married with children, he maintains a low-profile personal life, emphasizing humility and grassroots governance. Lawal’s technocratic approach blends private-sector expertise with a focus on stability and development, shaping Zamfara’s path toward recovery.
