World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA)

The World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA) is a global organization that was established in 1995 by UNCTAD and 50 investment promotion agencies (IPAs) to serve as a platform for cooperation and collaboration among investment agencies worldwide. Registered as a non-governmental organization in Geneva, Switzerland, WAIPA connects IPAs and facilitates the sharing of knowledge, best practices, and expertise in the field of investment promotion.

WAIPA’s primary mission is to support its members in their efforts to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and foster sustainable economic development. The organization provides a wide range of services to its members, including human capacity building, world-class training, and access to critical research and data. It also offers policy and strategy advice to help IPAs refine their operations and maximize their impact. By organizing events, conferences, and seminars, WAIPA creates opportunities for networking, collaboration, and the exchange of ideas among investment promotion professionals from around the world.

WAIPA’s membership is open to any agency, government body, or entity whose core function is promoting investment in a specific region, country, or territory. This wide membership base ensures that WAIPA represents a diverse range of perspectives and experiences, allowing it to address the unique challenges faced by different regions and economies.

Through its commitment to supporting IPAs, WAIPA helps its members improve their investment climate, attract FDI, and create a positive environment for economic growth. By fostering collaboration and providing valuable resources, WAIPA continues to be a driving force in the global investment promotion community, working towards its vision of enhancing FDI development worldwide.
